Argentine Wines
Argentina is the world's fifth largest wine producing nation, with most of it consumed within the country. The majority of the vineyards are situated in the foothills of the Andes mountains where they have access to water for irrigation from the melting snow. Wine production has been extremely important, dating back to the 16th century. Mendoza is the centre of quality wines. The best red wines are made with Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon showing ripe fruit, good structure and a great aging capacity. The most typical white wine is Torontes, aromatic and easy drinkable.
